Dental implants are modern marvels that can replace missing teeth. They look, feel and function just like your natural teeth, thus they are considered the number one choice when it comes to replacing missing teeth. Implants are tiny titanium posts which are placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. The bone adheres to the titanium and creates a very strong foundation for the implant crown. More over, implants can also prevent your jaw bone from shrinking and avoid your bite from collapsing.
Dental Implant Procedure
For most patients, the placement of them involves two stages. During the first stage, an implant surgeon will place the implant in your jawbone. It usually takes about 3-6 months for the implant to fully intergrade with the jaw bone. You might be given a temporary denture depending on the location of the implant. The second stage of the procedure is done after the implant is bonded completely to the bone underneath. Dr. Chang-LeMone will set up an appointment for you to take an impression in the implant area for the lab to fabricate the implant crown. Finally, she will attach posts or attachments to the implants, then the implant crown on top of the attachment. The complete dental implants procedure usually takes between six to eight months. Dr. Chang-LeMone may prescribe a night guard to help you prolong the life of your implants.
